The Nutritional Care Team members are clinical dietitians and hosts/hostesses. The dietitians may conduct nutritional assessments and explain the relationship between your diet and your medical condition. They will meet with you and your family members, if you desire, to provide educational and meal planning information to assist you in complying with your doctor's diet order when you are discharged home. The host/hostess will be collecting your daily menus. Please communicate any specific food preferences to them.
Your diet, like your medications, treatment and diagnostic tests prescribed by your doctor, is important to your recovery. Regular, soft, liquid, and special diets are served with your health and welfare in mind. Menus will be provided for your meal selection, and in many areas, we employ a "spoken menu" to assist you in making your meal decisions. If you are on a regular diet, but would prefer "Heart-Healthy" options (lower in salt and fat), please request your specific preference. If you would prefer other menu items, we have a menu substitution list as well as vegetarian options available on a daily basis. Please ask your host/hostess or dietitian for these menu alternatives.
We request that you ask visitors not to bring you food items as they may interfere with the diet prescribed by the physician.
Patient meals are normally served during the following hours:
Breakfast: 8:15 - 9 a.m.
Lunch: 12:15 - 1 p.m.
Dinner: 5:30 - 6:15 p.m.
Please inform the nursing staff if you would like some refreshments from the unit kitchenette prior to your meal, if you are accustomed to eating at earlier hours.
