Finger Lakes Health offers a variety of opportunities for volunteers ages 14 and up. Our volunteers provide the extra helping hands in many areas of the health system that make it possible to better serve our communities. They can be seen transporting patients, assisting in our gift shops, greeting patients and visitors, offering friendly words or a listening ear to our patients and residents, assisting with activities in our long term care facilities, performing clerical services for our employees, delivering Mobile Meals and more. Volunteering benefits everyone, offering the opportunity to meet new people, be active in the community and feel good about assisting others. Our patients, residents, employees and medical staff recognize and highly appreciate the service volunteers provide.
There are certain New York State Department of Health requirements for volunteers that include an application, an annual health screening and PPD (Tuberculosis) skin test. Volunteers also receive an orientation, including confidentiality, follow health system policies and procedures, observe professional dress standards and wear health system photo identification. Other requirements may apply depending on the area in which the volunteer serves. We welcome enthusiastic individuals of all backgrounds and abilities and do not assess applicants by race, religion or age, but rather by commitment, dependability and the desire to be of service. Acceptance as a volunteer is based on the health system's needs at the time of application and the willingness and acceptability of the volunteer.
