Finger Lakes Health Announces 2010 Auxiliary/Volunteer Report
Finger Lakes Health Auxiliary members and volunteers serve as ambassadors for the health system in our communities. In 2010, the auxiliaries contributed over $23,000 to fund requests from Geneva General Hospital and Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, along with the organization’s Living Centers in Geneva, Penn Yan, and Waterloo. Combined, the auxiliary members and Finger Lakes Health volunteers gave nearly 15,000 hours of their time to the organization in 2010.

In 2010, the Geneva General Hospital Auxiliary purchased an Emergency Department stretcher specifically designed for stroke patients, held a fashion show, provided funds for a Rhythm Workshop program for the Geneva Living Centers, rang the Salvation Army bell in support of its holiday campaign, provided a scholarship to a New Vision Medical Career Program student, and purchased newspaper subscriptions for patients.

The Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital Auxiliary partnered with Penn Yan’s Peebles department store for its second annual Fashion Show; held vintage jewelry, plant, and bake sales; held its annual Tag Day; and organized the “Remember Those Who Served” and “That Their Lights May Shine” fundraisers. The group’s fundraising efforts supported the operation of the Peppermint Parlor snack bar and gift shop.

The Taylor-Brown Auxiliary in Waterloo logged over 1,200 trips of residents to activities, as well as participated in fundraisers. The group’s efforts allowed the Huntington Living Center staff to purchase a new laptop computer for the residents’ use, supplies for the Special Needs Unit, entertainment for resident programs, outdoor deck furniture, and the facility’s Muzak music system. The auxiliary’s fundraising efforts helped fund the annual resident carnival, as well as the annual puppet show presented by the New Vision Medical Career program students to local kindergarten classes.

Membership in the Auxiliary is open to anyone in the community interested in supporting Finger Lakes Health. For more information call (315) 787-4065, or visit our website at www.flheath.org and type “auxiliary” in the search box.
