Dining Out at Home

Huntington Living Center Residents Enjoy a Fine Meal On-site

George Vreeland enjoys the meals he is served at the Huntington Living Center in Waterloo where he resides, but once in awhile likes to step out and offer his wife, Sharon, and friends something more special. Lucky for Vreeland, he doesn’t have to travel too far.

Located on the grounds of Huntington is the Countryside Grille, a makeshift high-end restaurant the staff has created to give the residents a fine dining experience different than their typical resident meal. Complete with linens, wait staff, and intimate music, the Countryside Grille features a special menu prepared by Chef Charlie Carter.

“The Vreelands, especially, love dining here with their friends,” said Assistant Administrator Debbie Lockett. “The meal they have at the Grille is so different from the meals they have on a normal day. When they come here, the residents are allowed to go off their typical diet for this special occasion. They really liven up.”

Nutritional Services Manager Dorothy Ricks agrees. “This experience is a way that loved ones can still enjoy an upscale meal together,” she said. “To see the smiles on everyone's face and to hear how much they appreciated the experience brings warmth to the department.”
