Marion S. Whelan School of Practical Nursing Celebrates Commencement 2011
The Marion S. Whelan School of Practical Nursing (MSWSPN) recently celebrated the commencement of their 76th graduating class. The class of 19 students is now eligible to take their Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) exam. Graduates include: Amanda Bates of Lyons; Josie F. Cichinelli of Seneca Falls; Morgan L. Davis of Geneva; Marie Olga Delille of Ovid; James William Eddinger of Pittsford; Alisha Lee Eveland of Waterloo; Ann K. Hansen of Walworth; Holly Jackson of Canandaigua; Suzanne Le of Newark; Ashley Rae Liguori of Canandaigua; Nikki L. LoBello of Rochester; Sarah Arline McKinney of Canandaigua; Kathleen M. Rose of Penn Yan; Monica Lynn Siccardi of Seneca Falls; Amber Lynn Sliski of Seneca Falls; Stephanie B. Tapscott of Geneva; Jennifer Ann Tomion of Stanley; Kerry Mae VanSickle of Geneva; and Kelsey Wagar of Nunda.

Awards were given to many outstanding graduates: Kerry VanSickle received the Fidelia Harman Memorial Award for highest academic achievement in nursing courses and the MSWSPN Service Award for outstanding service in medical/surgical nursing; Jennifer Tomion received the Marion S. Whelan Memorial Award recognizing a graduate nurse who exemplifies the characteristics of dedication to nursing and self-discipline which
were not only a part of Miss Whelan’s life, but are exemplified every day in the professionalism and dedication shown by the nurses in the Finger Lakes Health Education Department and throughout the organization; Alisha Eveland received the Perfect Attendance Award and the Catherine J. Loudin Achievement Award given to the graduate practical nurse most exemplifying the values of Finger Lakes Health during his or her educational training; Kelsey Wagar was presented the Alice Bergstresser Memorial Award given to the graduate practical nurse who exemplifies the characteristics Alice portrayed in her everyday living; namely, determination, dedication and compassion; Holly Jackson received the Kathleen “Rita” Talbert Memorial Award for demonstrating willpower and determination in achieving her goal despite obstacles and the Thomas I. Whelan Memorial Award for demonstrating in her life and in nursing school the motto “Faith-Hope-Charity”; Marie Olga Delille was presented the William J. DeCicco Memorial Award honoring the graduate who exhibits devotion to family, a strong work ethic, the value of education and love of country, and the Practical Nurse Licensing and Examination Award for exemplifying, through written illustration, the personal commitment and dedication needed to travel the journey that nursing school presents; Amanda Bates received the Advocate Award for having the qualities most important to healthcare delivery including caring, quality, professionalism and passion; Morgan Davis received the MSWSPN Student Achievement Award for demonstrating consistent growth through her awareness of patient needs and achievement in nursing performance.

The Marion S. Whelan School of Practical Nursing, one of only three hospital-based nursing programs in New York State, was founded in 1956. Since that time, it has graduated over 1,600 nurses. Congratulations to the graduating class of 2011 for their outstanding achievements.
