Finger Lakes Health Receives Pharmacy Award
Comprehensive Pharmacy Services (CPS), Memphis, TN, presented top honors to employees recently. The 2011 Site of the Year award for the Northeast and Southeast was presented to Leza Hassett, director of Pharmacy at Finger Lakes Health, based in Geneva, NY. Additionally, Hassett was one of seven people that received the prestigious Edward G. Hirschman Award for 2011.

The presentations were made during a senior management conference held in conjunction with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) mid-year trade show in New Orleans, LA.

The Site of the Year award is presented to the Director of Pharmacy at the site with an Operations Audit score of at least 85 percent; outstanding financial performance by meeting or exceeding budget; superior scores on The Joint Commission survey, as well as clinical success and maintaining good relationships with hospital administration.

Marcia Gutfeld, CPS regional vice president, cited Hassett’s commitment to her team, understanding patient and caregiver needs and her leadership role in the implementation of the hospital’s technology projects as key factors supporting her success.

The Edward G. Hirschman Award recognizes the continual display of behaviors that support CPS’ Vision and Values (integrity, excellence, patient focused, accountability and servant leadership).

Hassett has moved the Finger Lakes Health pharmacy services into the new frontier by implementing multiple technologies, changing the staffing model and empowering her staff to become part of the new model. She led the Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) and bar-coding processes. Further, she has identified and implemented programs that expand services and generate revenue.

“Leza is thoughtful and thorough and always keeps the patient at the center of the decision making process. She has been an excellent coach and mentor for her staff and has developed opportunities for them to be part of the new pharmacy practice model,” notes Jim Hiserodt, Senior Vice President, Finger Lakes Health. “Leza has received numerous accolades this year as a result of her efforts and involvement in the development of CPOE. In the meantime, she continues to keep her staff engaged in the process, which allows them to act as resources for the project. Leza is a gifted director and leader.”

CPS is the nation’s largest pharmacy services provider, partnering with greater than 300 hospitals and health care facilities in 46 states and employing over 1,600 pharmacy professionals. CPS serves all hospital segments, including acute care, behavioral health, long term care and other specialty facilities.
