Hospital Construction Project Creates Job Opportunities in Nursing

Finger Lakes Health’s $56 million expansion and renovation project is transforming Geneva General Hospital with 106,000 square feet of new construction and 45,000 square feet of renovated areas. Construction began last winter and focuses on four key areas central to the patient experience, including: 100% private patient rooms; a new, expanded Emergency Department; new, leading-edge Operating Rooms; and a new, larger Intensive Care Unit.

The “Journey to the Best” project is generating the need to hire additional nursing staff for the Geneva campus. Recruitment is currently underway to fill nursing positions in our Emergency Department (ED) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Finger Lakes Health seeks skilled nursing candidates that possess a minimum of five years experience in these settings.

The new ED and ICU areas will more than double in size increasing the hospital’s capacity to respond to large-scale emergencies and the critically ill in settings designed to incorporate the latest medical technology while providing a comfortable patient environment and well-designed work environment for staff.

“Our nurses have played an integral role in the thoughtful design of these new areas. We know how important it is for nursing staff to feel their work environments are fully-functional and optimizing their efforts and the patient experience,” said Diana Durfey, BSN, nurse manager in the Emergency Department. “We are energized by all the positive changes happening on campus, and we are looking for experienced nurses that want to join us on our journey to the best.”
