2012 Gary Garverick Memorial Award Announced

The 2012 Gary Garverick Memorial Award has been presented to two area organizations: the Dundee Emergency Squad and the Middlesex Hose Company. The Garverick Memorial Award is funded by the Finger Lakes Health Foundation.

The Dundee Emergency Squad will use the funds to support the start up of an electronic pre-hospital care reporting system. The system will allow providers to enter all patient data required to meet New York State guidelines electronically right in the ambulance, while providing pre-hospital care to patients. It will allow for a more efficient reporting system and far less paperwork.

The Middlesex Hose Company will use the award to purchase a new suction unit and EMS bag to assist EMS workers in the field. Both pieces of equipment will provide more efficient service and will replace older units that have been used for more than 15 years.

The annual Garverick award, which memorializes the former coordinator of Emergency Medical Services for Yates County, was initiated in 2000. It is available to emergency services organizations within the county for specialized equipment, educational programs or training.

Previous recipients include the Penn Yan Volunteer Ambulance Corps, the Branchport-Keuka Park, Benton and Himrod Fire departments, the Dundee Emergency Squad, Middlesex Valley Volunteer Ambulance Service, the Rape & Abuse Crisis Service of the Finger Lakes, the Bellona Volunteer Fire Company and Safe Harbors of the Finger Lakes Inc.
