Geneva General Hospital Emergency Department Wait Times Below State and National Averages

Geneva General Hospital’s Emergency Department excelled in timely emergency department care with wait times that are well below the New York State and National averages as well as being lower than other regional hospitals.

Geneva General Hospital’s (GGH) average time patients spent in the emergency department, before they were admitted to the hospital as an inpatient, was 106 minutes less than the New York State average of 366 minutes and 17 minutes less than the national average of 277 minutes.

When compared to another other local hospital patients spent 85 minutes less before being admitted. Compared to hospitals in the Rochester region, the time before admission at GGH was an average of 302 minutes less.

"The Emergency Department at Geneva General is striving hard to continue to surpass national averages on quality care measures and by reducing the wait time for our patients, this is another example of how we are providing the best care and experiences for our patients and community” states Dr. Virgil W. Smaltz, Director of Emergency Medicine for Finger Lakes Health.

In addition, GGH’s average time patients spent in the emergency department before being sent home was 21 minutes less than the New York State average of 155 minutes and 6 minutes less than the national average of 140 minutes.

The average time patients spent in the emergency department before being sent home was 53 minutes less when compared to another other local hospital, and compared to hospitals in the Rochester region patients were sent home an average 84 minutes sooner.
