“We Serve” is the motto of the Lions Club International and locally, the Penn Yan Lions Club is living that mission well. The local club contributes many hours providing service to the community and conducting fund raisers to help various causes in the community.

As the club begins its sponsorship of the 11th annual Cardiac Scramble golf tournament to benefit the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, it was noted that the club surpassed the $100,000 mark in giving to the Penn Yan hospital.

During the last 10 years, the club has donated nearly $89,000 to the Cardiac Rehab Scholarship Fund, to benefit financially eligible patients pay their co-pays for the program not covered by insurance. Additionally, the tournament has raised nearly $12,000 for ophthalmology services at S&S – in keeping with the international organization’s well-known sight programs.

The local club also donated more than $12,000 to the Advanced Life Support Unit – Medic 55 at Soldiers & Sailors, as well as supporting the Veterans’ Garden project.

Total contributions from the Penn Yan Lions Club to Soldiers & Sailors since 1994 are $113,170.

“We are grateful to the Penn Yan Lions Club for their continuing support of Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital through the tremendous donation of time and dollars.
