Finger Lakes Health Honors Employees for Years of Service, Announces Employee Awards

Finger Lakes Health held its annual Employee Recognition Dinner on May 6, 2013, honoring over 225 employees for their service to the community.

The recognition honored 28 employees who have retired in the last 12 months. The Morton Orlov, M.D. Education Award was also presented to 14 employees who have finished a degree program through the various educational tuition assistance programs offered at Finger Lakes Health.

Two special awards were presented to employees who exceed in the workplace: the James J. Dooley Leadership Excellence Award and the Employee of the Year. The James J. Dooley Leadership Excellence Award recognizes outstanding performance by a leader who is a member of the management staff. Sharon Galasso was the recipient for 2012.Galasso, director of nursing at the Living Centers in Geneva, was recognized for her exceptional leadership and commitment to Finger Lakes Health’s mission and values. This is the sixth year the Leadership Excellence Award has been presented.

The Employee of the Year for 2012 was presented at the end of the evening, honoring Sheila Hemminger, rehabilitation aide at Garnsey Rehabilitation Center, for her service at Finger Lakes Health. Hemminger, celebrating 25 years of service with Finger Lakes Health, was recognized for her exceptional service to patients, families, physicians, and colleagues.

This is the eleventh year the coveted Employee of the Year award has been presented, part of the Distinguished Values Award Program at Finger Lakes Health. Each quarter, employees from each site at Finger Lakes Health (Geneva, Waterloo, and Penn Yan) are recognized. The Employee of the Year is chosen from these outstanding individuals. The program recognizes those employees who consistently demonstrate organizational values and whose performance clearly exceeds the requirements of their positions.

Both award recipients received an engraved recognition plaque, their portrait on the Distinguished Values Wall of Fame, a cash award and dinner certificate, and a reserved parking space for one year.
