Finger Lakes Health’s Adult Day Health Program Receives Innovation Award

The Waterloo Adult Day Health Care program, a service of Finger Lakes Health, recently received an award from the Adult Day Health Care Council in the category of therapeutic activity for their creative “Walk to Disney” program.

The four-month walking program, developed by staff, began in July 2012 and allowed everyone enrolled in the program to participate. Every 2,000 steps was equal to one mile logged on the 1,210 mile journey to Walt Disney World. Progress was tracked using pedometers, and monthly weight and blood pressure screenings showed healthy results from the increased exercise.

The goal-oriented program fostered healthy competition amongst participants that was both fun and achievable. Upon arrival to their destination, the group celebrated with costumes, Disney-themed games and activities, and viewing of a favorite Disney movie.
