Finger Lakes Health Introduces New Athletic Trainer
Finger Lakes Health is proud to announce that Brianna Cooper has recently joined the health system as a Certified Athletic Trainer who will be at local school sporting events in Penn Yan. Brianna is the first dedicated athletic trainer that the health system has had on staff.

Finger Lakes Health is dedicated to providing a continuum of care to its young athletes through its network of physicians, orthopaedic surgeons, physical therapists and now by introducing a dedicated athletic trainer. Brianna will treat students ranging from in and out of season athletes as well as the general student population. She will treat students in the athletic training room and attend team practices and games each day to monitor for injuries and work with athletes who may be unable to fully participate with the rest of their team due to injury.

“I take time with each student to care and listen to their complaints and areas of concern and work with them to resolve the issue. Whether it is pain from a rolled ankle in gym class, or an incident that happened in a sports game/practice, I will evaluate each student and come to a diagnosis and treatment plan. I coordinate each day with the school nurse, coaches, parents, affiliated physicians and physical therapists to offer each student the best care possible” states Cooper.

Deane Butler , director of rehabilitation services, states “We are privileged to provide a service in our Penn Yan community that helps protect our children and teach them to protect themselves during sports activity and the importance of reporting any injuries that have occurred.”

Brianna received her Bachelor and Master of Science degrees, along with completing an accredited Athletic Training Program, at Daemen College in Buffalo, NY. Brianna is certified by the Board of Certification in Athletic Training. She is a member of the National Athletic Training Association, the Eastern Athletic Trainer’s Association and the New York State Athletic Trainers’ Association. Brianna also holds certifications in AED and First Responder as well as in American Heart Association CPR.
