Golf Tourney Raises $14,000 for Cardiac Rehab
The Penn Yan Lions Club, in cooperation with the Cardiac Rehabilitation program of Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, raised $14,000 to benefit the Cardiac Rehab program Scholarship Fund via the 12th annual “Cardiac Scramble”.

The 2014 scramble-format golf tournament was played June 11 at Lakeside Country Club with 154 players. Net revenue from the event provides funds for financial assistance to Phase II cardiac rehabilitation participants, who are unable to meet the full cost of co-payments not covered by insurance, and a portion of the proceeds benefits other Lions Club charitable projects.

Lara Turbide, Vice President, Community Services and Executive Director of the Finger Lakes Health Foundation, commented on the gift noting, “This year’s $14,000 contribution from tournament proceeds, brings the total contributed by the Lions Club to Soldiers & Sailors for the Cardiac Rehab scholarship fund, as well as other projects, to more than $140,000 over the past 18 years. This is amazing. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Lions Club for sponsoring the tournament for the last 12 years and especially to Dave Payne and Bruce Roe, co-chairs of the event, who have put in countless hours organizing the tournament. This type of community support is the hallmark of a community hospital, and SSMH is very privileged to have such incredible partners in the Penn Yan Lions.”

In addition to the Lions Club, Turbide extends thanks to the many businesses, agencies, and individuals who provided gifts, door prizes, hole sponsorships and major sponsorships for the event, as well as the golfers who supported the tournament.

“This event is a wonderful community effort,” she said, “and we appreciate everyone’s support of Soldiers & Sailors and the Cardiac Rehab program.”
