Geneva General Hospital Receives Top Performer Accolades for Pneumonia and Surgical Care
Geneva General Hospital (GGH) was named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® in the Joint Commission’s 2014 Annual Report—America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety, for a second consecutive year on the following measure sets: pneumonia and surgical care. GGH was recognized by The Joint Commission for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions.

“This outstanding achievement is a team effort not only at Geneva General Hospital, but all of Finger Lakes Health. We continue to prove not only to our community, but to the entire nation that we provide safe, quality care for our patients. At Finger Lakes Health, we continue to reach our goal of being the best health system of our size in the United States by continually improving our clinical outcomes. The best and safest care is what our community members deserve and it what we promise to deliver”, states Dr. Jose Acevedo, President and CEO of Finger Lakes Health.

GGH is one 1,224 hospitals in the United States , one of 45 hospitals in New York and one of three hospitals in the region earning the distinction of being a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance. Of the 1,224 Top Performer hospitals, only 58% achieved the distinction for the past two years in a row.

These 1,224 hospitals represent 36.9 percent of all Joint Commission-accredited hospitals reporting accountability measure performance data for 2013, and include general, children’s, psychiatric, surgical and cardiac specialty, and critical access hospital.

Recognition in The Joint Commission’s Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® program is based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the previous calendar year. This year’s program results are based on data that were reported for 2013. A recognized hospital must meet three performance criteria based on accountability data: 1) achieve cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures; 2) achieve performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure where there are at least 30 denominator cases; and 3) have at least one core measure set that has a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and (within that measure set) all applicable individual accountability measures have a performance rate of 95 percent or above.
