Finger Lakes Health News 2014
Geneva, NY – Mihail “Dr. Mike” Radulescu, M.D., is pleased to announce that he now offers a minimally invasive Anterior Supine Hip Procedure, an advanced hip replacement surgery designed to help patients return more quickly to their active lifestyles. Unlike traditional hip replacements that may use an 5- to 7-inch incision on the side or back of the leg, the Anterior Supine procedure uses a 4-inch skin incision on the front of the thigh, below the groin, minimizing disruption of muscles and other soft tissues. Dr. Radulescu is the only orthopaedic surgeon in the region to perform this minimally invasive procedure.

“Patients today are more active than ever before, and want to reclaim their mobility with a hip replacement that offers the potential for quicker recovery and less pain,” said Dr. Radulescu. “The Anterior Supine Procedure allows the hip replacement to be done without having to cut through thigh muscles and without disrupting the soft tissues that help support the hip joint. This allows many patients to experience much faster rehabilitation time than the six to eight weeks that is typical with traditional hip replacement procedures."

With its smaller incision, the Anterior Supine Procedure has also been shown to reduce typical hospital stays to 2-3 days, compared with potentially 3-4 days that is typical with traditional hip replacement surgery.

“Achieving the goal of reduced pain and recovery time is very important to our patients who are eager to resume their favorite activities,” said Radulescu. “This advanced procedure is truly a benefit for our patients who need a hip replacement, and at Geneva General Hospital, we’re excited to bring this latest treatment to our community.”

The Anterior Hip is not for everyone. There are some contraindications involving obesity and therefore consults with each patient are used to discuss appropriateness.

Finger Lakes Health has the region’s largest and leading orthopaedic team, committed to providing the best, safest and highest quality care to their patients. Their primary goal is to get patients moving again and back to their lives.
