Finger Lakes Health’s two Emergency Departments have the shortest wait times for all upstate New York hospitals according to medicare.gov/hospitalcompare in respect to the average (median) time patients spent in the emergency department before they were seen by a healthcare professional. Medicare.gov is the official U.S. Government Site for Medicare which provides quality data for hospitals, physicians and Medicare services nationwide.

Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital's Emergency Department in Penn Yan was ranked number one on the average (median) time patients spent in the emergency department before they were seen by a healthcare professional with a time of 9 minutes. The national median time for Emergency Departments comparable in volume to Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital is 19 minutes and the New York State median time is 23 minutes.

The Brenda & Dave Rickey Foundation Emergency Department at Geneva General Hospital ranked second with a time of 14 minutes. The national median time for Emergency Departments comparable in volume to Geneva General Hospital is 23 minutes and the New York State median time is 27 minutes.

Jose Acevedo, M.D., CEO & President of Finger Lakes Health states “as part of our journey to be the best health system of our size in the country, reducing wait times in our Emergency Departments is a priority. Our recognition of the shortest wait times to see a healthcare professional in upstate New York is further evidence of our staff’s commitment to this journey and being the best for those we serve. Evaluating patients quickly and getting them into a room is the vital first step, which allows us to begin the process of completing the appropriate diagnostic tests and determining a diagnosis and treatment plan. Our wait time is a reflection of the dedicated, caring, expert staff that we have in our Emergency Departments. As community members, we are very fortunate to have such talented Emergency Department staff.”

“I am very proud of the entire staff of both our Emergency Departments and their commitment to providing timely and excellent care to all our patients” states Matthew Talbott, M.D., Director of Emergency Medicine.
