Finger Lakes Health Presents Spring Chat & Snack at the Y
Finger Lakes Health will once again partner with the Geneva Family YMCA to present
Chat & Snack at the Y. Six programs are slated this spring, starting Wednesday, April
12. The free series of programs includes a light lunch and presentation. The programs,
presented at the Y, 399 William Street, Geneva, are open to the public; you don’t have
to be a member of the YMCA to participate. Reservations are appreciated by calling
(315) 789-1616.

The first program, “Vein Ablation” on Wednesday, April 12 will begin at 11:30 a.m.
Becky Bowen, RN, nursing coordinator at Finger Lakes Health’s Vein Center of the
Finger Lakes, will discuss the symptoms of venous insufficiency and vein ablation
treatment.

On Thursday, April 27, at noon, Occupational Therapist Kelly Christensen, OTD, OTR/L,
will present “Fall Prevention”. She will provide information on modifications and tips
to improve safety within the home environment.

Ann Nielson, long term care admissions coordinator, will discuss “What You Should
Know about Long Term Care Before You Need It” at noon on Thursday, May 11. Join
Nielson to learn about varied long term care services and the different levels of care
before you need them for a loved one or yourself.
“Get Ready to Run/Cubby Chase 5K, 10K, Fun Run” will be presented Wednesday,
May 24 at 11:30 a.m. Kathy Brown-Ryrko, director of the Jim Dooley Center for Early
Learning at Geneva General Hospital, will share information on how you can prepare
to run a 5K or 10K at the upcoming “Couch to Cubby Chase” program. She also
will invite participants to join the Cubby Chase - as a runner or volunteer.

Diana Modera, BSN, Acute Rehab Unit at Geneva General, will present “Signs &
Symptoms of Stroke & a Blood Pressure Screening” at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday,
June 7. Join Modera to learn the risk factors, some causes and what you can do to
prevent a stroke. The presentation will be followed by a blood pressure screening
done by Modera and Jodi Hennessy, LPN.

The final program in the series will be presented Thursday, June 22 at noon by Helen
Wong, M.D. on the “Osteoporosis Clinic of the Finger Lakes”. Dr. Wong is an
orthopaedic surgeon and director of Finger Lakes Health’s Osteoporosis Clinic of the
Finger Lakes. She will discuss the controllable and uncontrollable risk factors of
Osteoporosis. She also will explain what you can do to keep bones healthy and how to
access the Osteoporosis Clinic.
