FLH Foundation Presents Wigsten Award
The Finger Lakes Health Foundation presented a member of the Penn Yan Academy Class of 2017, Brooke Dinehart, with the Kitty Wigsten Memorial Scholarship.

The one-year scholarship is awarded to a graduating Penn Yan senior who plans to pursue career studies in healthcare services. The scholarship is sponsored by the Finger Lakes Health Foundation and is funded through gifts given in memory of Katherine “Kitty” Wigsten who served Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital for more than 30 years as a nurse, manager and administrative team member.

The award recipient, Brooke Dinehart, plans to pursue a career in nursing. She intends to attend the Alderson Broaddus University in West Virginia to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

During her high school career, Dinehart was recognized at Academic Excellence Day for maintaining a 90 plus GPA. She was named a New York State Scholar Athlete for all three sports seasons, when she played volleyball, basketball and lacrosse. She also was inducted into the World Language National Honor Society. She was a member of the Debate Club, Pep Club, Varsity Club, Girls’ Athletic Association, Bio-Med Club and the National Junior Honor Society. She served as treasurer of her senior class.

In the community, she helped do flood cleanup in May 2014; helped with Penn Yan Youth Basketball and was an Elks Hoop Shoot volunteer. She assisted with the Penn Yan Academy Athletic Hall of Fame dinner for four years and volunteered for the Yates Christmas Program.

Dinehart works at Eastview Veterinary Clinic and previously worked at Penn Yan School District as a summer employee.

The Finger Lakes Health Foundation encourages area residents and organizations to support the Kitty Wigsten Memorial Scholarship through their financial gifts so the award can be continued into the future. To make a contribution to the scholarship, send a check, payable to the Finger Lakes Health Foundation, to the Foundation Office, 196 North Street, Geneva, NY, 14456. Note that the gift is for the Kitty Wigsten Memorial Scholarship on the check. Or, visit our website at www.flhealth.org and click on “Make a Donation”. Please direct questions to: (315) 787-4050.
