Interlakes Orthopaedic Surgery Performs Subchondroplasty® Procedure to Relieve Joint Pain
Interlakes Orthopaedic Surgery is proud to announce that Dr. James Mark and Dr. Guy Klein are performing the Subchondroplasty® Procedure (SCP) at Finger Lakes Health.

“Subchondroplasty Procedures are an option for some patients with arthritic changes to their knees. The SCP, if indicated, may provide relief of pain associated with Bone Marrow Lesions (BML). If the procedure is a surgical option for a particular patient, it may provide relief and delay the need for more definitive procedures like Joint replacement surgeries” states James Mark, M.D. and director of orthopaedics for Finger Lakes Health.

The SCP® Procedure is a minimally-invasive surgery that targets and fills chronic subchondral bone defects, sometimes referred to as BML. The procedure is usually performed along with arthroscopy (“scoping”) of the nearby joint, allowing the surgeon to visualize and treat findings inside the joint.

During the procedure, the surgeon will use fluoroscopy (intraoperative X-ray) to place a small, drillable cannula in the area of the bone defect. The surgeon will then deliver AccuFill® BSM into the defect, where it hardens with properties that mimic cancellous bone. During the healing process, the AccuFill® BSM is resorbed and is replaced with new bone.

Dr. James Mark and Dr. Guy Klein are pleased to perform this procedure and offer alternative options for patients when appropriate. To make an appointment to discuss whether The SCP® Procedure is right for you please call (315) 789-0993.
