Afib & Stroke Prevention is Dine & Discuss Topic
“Got Afib? New Approaches to Stroke Prevention” will be presented Thursday, November 9 as part of Finger Lakes Health’s Dine & Discuss program. The program will begin at 6 p.m. at the Ramada Inn, Geneva Lakefront.

An estimated 2.2 million people in the U.S. have been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. As someone diagnosed with Afib, it’s important to understand not only the condition but also the risks associated with it, like Afib-related stroke.

If you have Afib not caused by a heart valve problem and are interested in learning more about the condition, the connection between Afib and stroke, and options available to manage your stroke risk, this educational session is for you. You will learn about treatment options that can help reduce the risk of Afib-related strokes, including drug and device therapies.

Dr. Jeremiah Depta, a Board-Certified Cardiologist with Rochester Regional Health, and Dr. Joseph Gomez, Board-Certified Cardiologist with Finger Lakes Health, will partner on this presentation.

The program is being co-sponsored by Finger Lakes Health and Boston Scientific, developer of the WATCHMAN™ left atrial appendage closure device. The implantable device is designed to close the left atrial appendage in the heart in an effort to reduce the risk of stroke.

The Dine & Discuss program includes dinner and discussion for $10 per person. Reservations and payment are required by 5 p.m., November 6, and may be made online at www.flhealth.org/events or by calling (315) 787-4636 or (315) 531-2053.
