Help Finger Lakes Health Save Lives
More than 112,000 people in the United States are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant, and time is running out. Today, 18 of them will die because not enough organs are available for transplantation. Hundreds of thousands of others whose lives would benefit from the gift of tissue and eye donations continue to wait and hope.

In New York, there are more than 10,000 people waiting for an organ transplant.

Finger Lakes Health can help you give the gift of life. Finger Lakes Health is partnering with Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network to help register new organ donors in the New York State Donate Life Registry as part of reaching the national goal. The campaign includes other organ, eye and tissue donation organizations, national associations in the healthcare sector, and hospitals nationwide to register 300,000 new donors by April 30, 2012.

But Finger Lakes Health and Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network need your involvement and support. We are asking our entire hospital community to help save lives by joining with our partner organ donation organization, Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network, in educating staff members, patients and their families, visitors, and the extended community outside our doors on the critical need for organ donation and providing opportunities for people to sign up as organ, eye, and tissue donors.

“By registering to be an organ donor, you are making your wishes known and relieving your family of the burden of making the decision for you” said Rob Kochik, Executive Director, at Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network. “Please have a discussion with your family and tell them you want to give the Gift of Life.”

Joining the campaign is easy. For event information and details on ways you can become actively involved, contact Julie LaBarr, Risk Manager/Performance Improvement Supervisor at Finger Lakes Health at (315) 787-4177, Amy James, Community Education Coordinator at Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network at (585) 683-3174, or visit www.donorrecovery.org.

And please take a few minutes today to add your name to our state’s donor registry. Someday you may save a life. Visit www.donorrecovery.org to find out how.
