Advanced Diagnostic Power in New Digital Radiographic X-RAY System at Geneva General Hospital
(GENEVA, NY) – Clinicians at Geneva General Hospital are using a new Discovery™ XR650 digital radiography system to see their patients in new ways.
Manufactured by GE Healthcare, the Discovery XR650 helps physicians clearly see the internal structure of their patients to view injuries and abnormalities and confidently prescribe the best treatment. What’s unique about the Discovery XR650 system is that it offers several innovative advanced clinical applications and automated features that are geared to improving the patient experience. Advanced clinical applications include:
Dual Energy Subtraction eliminates overlying bone obstruction from chest or abdominal images. It provides a standard PA radiograph, a soft-tissue only image with the bones removed, and an image of the bones highlighting foreign objects and calcified abnormalities.
Features such as Auto-image paste, auto-positioning and auto-processing help reduce exam times as well as wait times for processed images. There is no film or film type of cassettes at all. All images go directly from the room to the Radiologist's reading station.
The flexibility of the hardware components simplifies patient positioning. “Patients in wheelchairs or those with physical limitations will appreciate the speed at which we can position them for X-rays,” says Jeff Fultz, director of diagnostics. He adds that digital technology allows the patented flat panel detector to capture multiple images per second. “The detector is moveable, and can be used with the wall stand or with the table, without interfering with patient positioning and comfort.”
“The Discovery XR650 takes X-ray imaging to a new level of diagnostic power,” says Fultz. “By offering this technology at Geneva General Hospital we continue our tradition of putting the latest tools to work to benefit patients and families in our community.”
