Theresa Fletcher, RN Honored with The DAISY Award
September 23, 2025
GENEVA – Theresa Fletcher, RN, a nurse at UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health, was honored by the health system with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses®. Theresa is currently working in the Geneva General Hospital Dialysis Center.
A grateful patient shared the following about Theresa’s care in Geneva General Hospital Dialysis Center:
“Since the first day I had been put on Dialysis, Theresa has been wonderful. She helped me to understand what exactly was happening. When I am on the dialysis machine, she answers all my questions about the levels I need to watch out for with my renal diet, along with giving suggestions about the diet. This transition to be put on dialysis was extremely difficult for me as I was used to working a 40-hour work week and doing everything on my own. Theresa has been there to listen and comfort me through my good days and bad days. Her kindness and patience have made all the difference during the difficult time adjusting to this new lifestyle and diet. Theresa is a true “Gem” for the Dialysis Unit and in the hospital. You can tell she truly loves her work and should be commended.”
UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health is proud to recognize Theresa Fletcher with The DAISY Award.
Established by The DAISY Foundation, a not-for-profit organization founded in memory of J. Patrick Barnes by his family, this award recognizes nurses who have a profound impact on the lives of their patients and families. Patrick died at age 33 in 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little-known but not uncommon autoimmune disease. (DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.) The exceptional care Patrick received from the nurses at his bedside inspired the creation of this award.
If you have received extraordinary care from a nurse, or if you are a family member of someone who has experienced great care, and would like to nominate them, please visit: www.daisyfoundation.org/contact-us.
Nomination boxes are also located throughout Geneva General Hospital and Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital. Nurses throughout Finger Lakes Health will be recognized throughout the year at celebrations attended by their colleagues, patients, and visitors.
Each honoree receives a certificate commending them as an "Extraordinary Nurse." The certificate reads: "In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people." Honorees also receive a DAISY Award pin and a beautiful and meaningful sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.
