Ryan Fields, MD

Chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center. 

Along with my partner and colleague, Dr. Eva Galka, we co-lead our department’s cutaneous oncology program and are committed to providing timely, expert, and state-of-the-art care for the patients in our region.

In July 2025, I joined URMC as the Seymour Schwartz Professor and Chair of Surgery and Associate Director for Translational Research at the Wilmot Cancer Institute. My clinical practice focuses on the surgical management of complex solid tumors, including melanoma and other cutaneous malignancies. I bring a collaborative approach to patient care and have deep experience with challenging diagnoses, particularly in the context of multidisciplinary cancer 
treatment. Prior to joining URMC, I served as Chief of Surgical Oncology at Washington University in St. Louis, where I co-led the Melanoma & Cutaneous Oncology Program at the Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center.
