GENEVA- UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health is offering individuals interested in a career in healthcare the opportunity to gain firsthand exposure through its Career Insights Shadowing Program. This structured observational program allows participants to explore both clinical and non-clinical departments while learning about the roles, responsibilities, and daily operations within a healthcare environment.

The program is designed for individuals who are considering a future in healthcare and wish to make informed decisions about potential career pathways through real-world observation.

Program Structure and Guidelines

  • Duration: Shadowing experiences range from a minimum of 2 hours to a maximum of 40 hours, completed within a consecutive four-week period. Recommended shifts are 2–4 hours in length.

  • Nature of Experience: This is a strictly observational program. Participants may observe routine departmental activities but may not perform hands-on tasks, procedures, or provide patient care.

  • Patient Care Areas: In areas involving direct patient care, participants will not be exposed to blood or body fluids, respiratory or infectious diseases, or direct physical contact with patients.

  • Restricted Areas: Shadowing is not permitted in the Operating Room.

  • Eligibility: Participants must be at least 16 years of age.

  • Compensation: This is an unpaid educational opportunity and does not provide financial compensation, academic credit, or internship hours.
