Geneva General Hospital’s Women’s Health Services Awarded Stereotactic Breast Biopsy ACR Accreditation
July 29, 2025
GENEVA- Geneva General Hospital’s Women’s Health Services, has been awarded a three-year accreditation term in stereotactic breast biopsy by the American College of Radiology (ACR). This is the 7th consecutive three-year accreditation since 2004.
“We are very proud of this recognition,” said Lisa Davis, Supervisor of Women’s Health Services. “This accreditation acknowledges our Women’s Health team’s clinical excellence is a tribute to their dedication to the patients of Finger Lakes Health.”
A breast biopsy is performed to remove cells from a suspicious area — either surgically or through a minimally invasive procedure using a hollow needle. In stereotactic breast biopsy, a specialized mammography machine helps guide the radiologist’s instruments to the site of an abnormal growth.
The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. This designation is only awarded to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards. The accreditation process involves a thorough peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in breast imaging. The assessment covers image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment adequacy, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs. The findings are submitted to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which provides the facility with a detailed report to support continuous practice improvement.
