Penn Yan- University of Rochester Medicine Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital is proud to announce that it has successfully completed its Critical Access Hospital (CAH) survey conducted by state and federal surveyors. The review concluded with no clinical findings, underscoring the organization’s continued commitment to safe, highquality care for the community.

“We are proud of our team and the dedication they show every day,” said Matthew Talbott, MD, MBA, Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer for University of Rochester Medicine Finger Lakes Health “A survey with no clinical findings is a meaningful affirmation of the work our staff does to ensure that every patient receives safe, reliable care.”

A critical access hospital (CAH) is a small, rural hospital designated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to ensure that remote communities maintain access to essential healthcare services. The designation supports financial stability by allowing these hospitals to receive costbased Medicare reimbursement, which helps keep them operational despite low patient volumes.

The CAH certification process includes a comprehensive review of patient care, safety practices, staff interviews, and hospital operations to ensure compliance with federal quality and safety standards.

For local patients, this certification provides assurance that they can access high-quality, safe care close to home at a facility that meets nationally recognized standards.

Soldiers and Sailors operates a 25-bed general acute-care hospital, with a medical-telemetry unit for heart monitoring.
