The Geneva General Hospital Auxiliary has awarded a $500 scholarship to Paige O’Brien, a senior at Geneva High School. O’Brien was awarded the scholarship because she earned the highest mentor evaluation average among her classmates in the New Vision Medical Careers Program at Geneva General Hospital. Mentor evaluations encompass assessments from a variety of practitioners including physicians, therapists, nurses, administrators, aides, and extenders. New Vision Instructor, Laura Van Niel, announced the award, virtually, during a zoom class.

O’Brien received several complimentary comments from her mentors including, "Excellent, motivated student. Pleasure to have in the OR," and “Paige demonstrated professionalism. Great with patients. Polite and courteous, asked great questions and very enthusiastic about learning." She will be attending SUNY Albany, on a pre-medicine tract, and will study biology, with a particular focus on neuroscience.

The Auxiliary has funded the scholarship since the inception of the New Vision program, and members of the Auxiliary Board agree that, “The New Vision students are an asset to Geneva General Hospital. We recognize how important it is to invest in educating future healthcare staff. We are pleased to support Paige as she begins her college studies this fall.”

The New Vision Medical Careers Program is an educational partnership with Finger Lakes Technical & Career Center and Finger Lakes Health. Now in its 25th year of offering outstanding high school seniors from surrounding districts a total immersion approach to education, the New Vision Medical Careers Program integrates Health Science, English, Participation in Government and Economics into a curriculum where students meet daily at Geneva General Hospital.
